World Menstruation Day: Divya Agarwal Says, 'Have Been Scolded By Teachers As I Visited Washroom Frequently To Check If I Have Stained'- EXCLUSIVE
Akshay Kumar made an entire film on sanitary pads and since then has been spreading awareness about menstruation hygiene. However, even today there are people who consider the term as a taboo.

Today, as we celebrate World Menstruation Day, Divya speaks to us exclusively about the importance of self-awareness about the subject. "It's good that people have made days like this to create awareness but this is something which needs to be practiced daily. Today also a lot of people think that we should not talk about periods openly."

When asked what can be the solution to change people's thought process and she said, "I think every girl needs to speak about it openly with her brother, father, boyfriend or a guy friend for that matter. As I know there are many ladies who even after marriage don't open up about their periods. But if we all start speaking about the pain we are dealing with or our mood swings, we will help others to understand and share our pain in a way. They will understand why you don't want to go office or clean the house. In schools too, also every child should be taught about it- a boy or a girl."

Divya further spoke about her school days when she was scolded by her teacher for making frequent washroom visits.  "I remember when I was in school, I used to go to the washroom, every 15 minutes as I feared staining my skirt. Teachers ki daant bhi suni hai but couldn't help it. So, if everyone will start talking about it probably a girl could tell the real reason and go to the washroom," said Divya.

Divya also revealed how she is still being targeted for speaking about the subject openly to media. "Now, when I am talking to media about it, they are trolling me saying you are encouraging it more. In fact, I also received a call from a sanitary pad brand to promote their product on social media and talk about it but I said no as my motive is to make people open up about the topic and not make money out of it."
